BIO

Cathy Vaughn grew up in two worlds. One consisted of the somewhat urban sprawl of Oklahoma City, OK and the other was a juxtaposed rural cattle ranch outside of Okarche, OK. Throughout her childhood and continuing into her adulthood, Cathy loved music. She identified more with singing than with the visual arts. It wasn’t until into her adulthood she made the connection with the artist inside of her. She found her visual creativity was stimulated by acrylic painting and flow mediums. This unlocked a new channel of energy inside of her, which until then had been left untapped. Now she endlessly researches and explores new ways to share her creative energies with others through her paintings.

Professionally, Cathy has been an educator in the Oklahoma school system for over 20 years. She holds her master’s degree in education and serves as an Instructional Coach. Cathy also spent 3 years living full-time in Mexico as a missionary. She is married to fellow visual artist, Josh Vaughn, and now resides in Oklahoma, OK.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Inspired by the stirring emotions that emanate from color and movement, I create abstract works of art with acrylic paint, resin, and other mediums. By manipulating my canvasses, I cause the layers of carefully selected mediums to envelop their surface with visual interest. The relative chaos of wild rivers of color flowing together and forming cellular structures draws the viewer into my work. Then the onlooker is just as much a part of the creative process as I am. Just as the spectrum of color is infinite, so are the many unique reactions my work elicits from each individual. My goal is to evoke an emotive response through the processing of the color and motion that inundates my work.
